Research and Scholarship
My research centres on Maltese historic dress and visual culture, drawing on surviving costume, photography and archival documentation. With an academic background in Anthropology and Art History, together with experience in creative practice, I bring archival research, objects and images together to tell nuanced visual stories.
Curation and Artistic Direction
I have served as curator at Palazzo Falson Historic House Museum in Mdina and as volunteer costume curator at Casa Rocca Piccola, I am entrusted with the care of the exceptional collection of historic lace and dress. My curatorial research and practice span the filed of art, photography and historic dress. I have also co-artistic directed with Francesca Balzan, the immersive exhibition, Curious Beauty: An Alternative Costume Exhibition for Fondazzjoni Patrimonju Malti, as well as collaborations that explore the intersection of historical and contemporary creativity.
Publishing and Editorial
I founded Elegance magazine, one of the first fashion and lifestyle magazines in Malta, and edited it for twelve years (1983 to 1995), later holding editorial roles at other publications. My book Society Fashion in Malta: The Portrait Photography of Leandro Preziosi 1830–1869, published by Fondazzjoni Patrimonju Malti, received the National Book Council Prize 2023 for Best Publication Production, and I was honoured with the Malta Fashion Week Icon Award for Fashion Journalism. I have contributed articles to books, academic journals and exhibition catalogues, and regularly present my research at public lectures and conferences in Malta and abroad.
Broadcasting
Broadcasting has accompanied my research from the outset, beginning with radio interviews with leading museum curators and heritage professionals. I produced Malta’s flagship weekly cultural programme KULTEMA and co-produced MALTARTI with Sarah Lee Zammit, on TVM in collaboration with Arts Council Malta. I have also presented cultural segments on TVAM Breakfast Show and TVM Evening News Bulletin. My thirteen-part documentary series Moda l-Istorja, produced by Sharp Shoot and broadcast on ONE TV, traces the history of Maltese dress through archival research, guest experts and visual storytelling.
Current Work
I am currently developing a practice‑led research project, Fashion Heritage: From Storage to Digital Revival, which explores digital approaches to the documentation of historic dress in private collections, supported by Arts Council Malta. I serve as Vice-Chair of ICOM-Malta, the national committee of the International Council of Museums, and as a Board Member of the Postal Museum Malta. I have previously sat on the Boards of Arts Council Malta and Notarial Archives Foundation.
